his is my story, it was around 2008 when I was a fan of In Flames, since their albums Whoracle, Colony, Clayman, Reroute to Remain, etc. When this album came out, I was around 18 or 19 years old. At that time, here in Chile where I lived, "emo" or "screamo" was the trend, bands like Underoath were the most popular among young people, and unfortunately, reggaeton was making its appearance, stemming from Afro-Latin culture (none of which results in anything good for Black people, sorry, woke). This album defined my life. It wasn't like Come Clarity (an album I enjoyed); this new album was a summary of an entire generation. It was a summary of melodic death metal but "modern" at that time. The modern thing was screamo. Anders took on the "screamo" style of Underoath in his vocals, but instrumentally, it was something different, something more polished. Songs like "The Chosen Pessimist" are the ultimate glory.
